Artisanal Fishery Morrosquillo

Assessment of the artisanal fishery at Gulf of Morrosquillo, Departments of Córdoba and Sucre, Colombian Caribbean, 2008 – 2012.

The Gulf of Morrosquillo is a geographic area with traditional and profuse artisanal fishing activity, besides the semi-industrial trawling fishing in the last five decades. To create a management plan for fishing and artificial reefs utilization, the artisanal fishery dynamics has been assessed from the influence area of Santiago de Tolú until the bay of Cispatá, with the financial support of the Colombian Institute of Rural Development (INCODER) in Sucre, Agricultural Colombian Institute (ICA), Argos Foundation and also Program Diáspora.

MoAm has conducted the fishery evaluation, reproductive biology of commercial species, mapping, preliminary management plans, environmental education and divulgation.
