Artisanal Fishing Wetland

Monitoring of Artisanal Fisheries in Mata de Palma Wetland, Potrerillo – La Loma, El Paso, Cesar 2025-2026

Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems on Earth, supporting high levels of biodiversity and providing essential ecosystem services. However, they are threatened by the impacts of human activities, which have degraded their environmental quality and consequently, the livelihood of communities that depend on them.

As part of the social management program implemented by Colombian Natural Resources (CNR), MoAm was contracted to conduct an assessment of artisanal fisheries and water quality during the dry and wet seasons in the study area. The project includes the following activities:

  • Characterize artisanal fishing economic units
  • Describe fishing effort dynamics
  • Conduct a participatory assessment of fishery landings
  • Evaluate water quality
  • Assess potential environmental and socio-ecological impacts
  • Implement environmental education activities and socialize results to local communities
    • GEOLOCATE
