Effectiveness of Modified Lobster Gillnets for Capturing Lionfish Pterois volitans in Dibulla, La Guajira 2026
The lionfish Pterois volitans is an invasive species that has caused unprecedented impacts on marine and coastal ecosystems throughout the Greater Caribbean and western Atlantic. Consequently, multiple strategies have been proposed to control its populations, including the use of alternative fishing gears and the development of a consumer market for the species.
This project was conducted by MoAm with financial support from GOAL to evaluate the effectiveness of modified lobster gillnets for capturing lionfish in the fishing grounds of Dibulla. The study comprises the following activities:
