Participatory Assessment of Blue Crab Cardisoma guanhumi Population in La Punta de los Remedios, Dibulla, La Guajira 2025-2026
The blue crab Cardisoma guanhumi is a vulnerable species due to habitat degradation and illegal exploitation. In La Punta de los Remedios, Dibulla, a local community harvests this species across different wetlands and coastal areas.
This project was conducted by MoAm, under a general cooperation agreement between GOAL and Corporación Autónoma Regional de La Guajira (Corpoguajira), aimed at promoting research, management, and monitoring of natural resources and ecosystems. The objective was to assess, through a participatory approach, the biology and ecology of blue crab under different harvesting patterns and environmental conditions, as well as community perceptions of the status of this resource.
