Marine Ranching Feasibility

Feasibility and bioeconomy study for marine ranching with artificial reefs in the Caribbean of Colombia 2023-2024

Marine ranching with artificial reefs is a strategy for adaptation and mitigation against the decline and loss of fishery resources and biodiversity. As a nature-based solution, it seeks to improve the environmental and productivity conditions of coastal waters for the benefit of the local communities through different approaches. In these respects, GOAL Colombia joint forces with MoAm to assess the potential application of this technology with a case study in Dibulla (La Guajira) and other places of the Caribbean.

The study includes the following activities:

  • Biophysical, biodiversity, and fishery assessments of marine ranching initiatives
  • Bioeconomic model for marine ranching development
  • Feasibility protocol for marine ranching in Colombia
    • GEOLOCATE
